1894
May 15 - Mrs. Evelyn Heartwick, recently widowed, opens the Greenwich Village Lodging House for business. Her daughter, Theodosia "Trill" Heartwick (age 14), leads the newsgirls.
1896
Footsteps Callaway (age 14) comes to New York and is arrested that very night for sleeping on a park bench.
1897
Footsteps is released from the Refuge and moves into the Greenwich Village Lodging House.
Trill Heartwick (age 18) leaves the Greenwich Village house to become a great singer, bestowing the leadership on a startled Footsteps.
1899
July and August - The Greenwich Village newsgirls participate in the Newsies' Strike and do their part admirably.
